bioExplicit earned his stars and stripes as an emcee the good old fashioned way, by taking part in freestyle battles, which earned him the reputation of being one of the best freestyle emcees in the country. Having won 38 out of the 40 battles he competed in, winning titles such as the “Metro FM unsigned top ten”, “Hype Unsigned Showcase”, and the “War with Words Battle 2” along the way.
In April this year, DJ Fresh commissioned Explicit to start the ‘Weekly News Rap Up’, which airs every Friday, repeatedly between 3 and 7pm on the 5fm Fresh Drive. The segment presented the opportunity for Explicit to flex his rhyming skills on a platform that broadcasts to over 1.5 million listeners, and has already proven to be a huge success.
Late in 2007, he released his first solo project an EP titled “My Story Page One”. The EP received an overwhelming response from fans and industry peers alike. In addition to being a significant milestone in his career, the release of his EP has set the platform for his upcoming album presently in early stages of production, with release planned for later this year. The EP featured guest appearances by top SA artists such as Reason, Proverb, Spaceman, Cash, Koli and Prototype.
Certain tracks off the EP have already received a considerable amount of airplay on local radio stations, with Beautiful Music debuting high up on T-Bo Touch’s hip-hop top ten, and remaining on the charts for several weeks already.
Explicit has stayed at the forefront of the hip-hop scene since 2005, appearing in Hype Magazine countless times, as well as having tracks included in their compilation CDs. He’s been featured in a double page spread in XL magazine this year, radio jingles for 5fm and Rhodes Fm, as well as being one of the headline performers in the 8 show “Kick in the Door” campus tour. He’s featured on several compilations, mixtapes and guest appearances on other artists albums, such as Landmynz, Beats Against the Beast With a number of exciting projects in the pipelines, you’ll be sure to be hearing a lot more from this rising star in the coming months.
Recently he was interviewed on TUT’S 360º Show on the Top Radio 93.6fm and he proved to be ‘a force to be reckoned with’ as he delivered an outstanding performance live on air with an 8 minute freestyle that was labeled a ‘beat-down’ from the crew members of the show. It was established that Explicit is indeed talented and that audiences should watch this space closely.
