Love on Rollerskates new and original sounds

August 22nd, 2008

Love on Rollerskates is a street team, a secret handshake, middle of the night, flash mobbing, head throbbing, dance monkey, top of your lungs, snap bangle, neon nightmare, inside-outside-inside-on, BMX-powered gang of kids who over dress in their Sunday best to make bright sights and loud sounds. They make dance-dance electro-fag glock-pop. Over-use of adjectives aside they have no agenda other then to make kids shake their bodies about on the dance floor and perhaps when they finish recording their debut EP for them to take a copy of it home and make up synchronized dances. Wowie!

Acoustics from Naming James

August 22nd, 2008

Naming James is the work of singer/songwriter Jamie Acheson. Intimate and soulful sounds blending with quirky commentaries on life make up this repertoire of acoustic musings.

Jamie’s experience of performing live stretches far as he has shared the stage with many top SA artists and performed in over 200 gigs, of all variety, in the last few years. The most noteworthy of which being in November 2006 when he played his original song Apple Tree with top SA band The Parlotones at the Coca Cola dome, opening for Live on their Black Mountain Tour to over 3000 people.

Say no to plastic, say no to CD’s… and yes to Digital

August 22nd, 2008

Every time you go into a music store to buy a CD you are killing the earth we live on, the CD’s you buy are made of plastic… which of course comes from oil, the CD’s had to get to the store some how, some may have even been flown in, and then the store uses a whole bunch of electricity to power the lighting and speakers busting out the latest commercial tunes.

So say no to this… it’s just not sustainable and it’s just not cool!

Watch out for our online petition that you can sign and declare you will never buy a CD again, only download digital music from this day forward, but don’t punish the artists for this - only download from legal music sites like loadtheshow.com

International PRO for EMI, Kevin Mdubeki, and Michal Kaczmarczyk, Product Manager for International Marketing at EMI SA jointly announced that, “We’re thrilled to have Underoath finally visit South Africa. The demand for this tour has been phenomenal for some time and this is a huge step towards developing the band’s presence in our market. Their last album, “Define the Great Line”, was released in 2006, drawing great acclaim from critics and fans alike and we’re very excited to have Underoath promote their latest release directly to their growing South African fan base!”

Underoath is set to release the “Survive, Kaleidoscope” live CD/DVD in June 2008. The band recorded the concert footage at a performance in Philadelphia at the Electric Factory in October 2007. A brand new, as yet untitled, studio album will be released early September 2008, coinciding with the South African tour dates.

Promoters, Authentic Ideas, have chosen to invite as many local bands to perform on the tour as possible to enable local artistes to embrace this amazing opportunity with one of the world’s top post-hardcore bands.

At the moment there are six pre-selected local bands in the SA Underoath tour, five of which will be hosting Support Search Shows;

* Crossingpoint (Durban),
* New Altum (Cape Town),
* New Found Disorder (JHB).
* Straatligkinders (Potch/PTA)
* Unlisted (JHB),
* The Narrow

Five of these bands will be hosting preliminary Support Search Show’s to choose a support act for the show in their area. At each Support Search Show, the “hosting band” will perform at the end of the night.

Four local bands will be accepted to play at each of the regional battles from submissions sent to the local Underoath website (www.underoath.co.za) and one top band per show will be chosen by the audience to be added to the Underoath show in their region.

5 July: The Wavehouse – The White Room, KZN. Crossingpoint’s Support Search Show. Four positions available to local bands to compete. Bands should submit via www.underoath.co.za .

2008, the year digital music distribution ate the others…

January 14th, 2008

Where ever you look on the Internet there is music available for download, not just the standard commercial stuff you find in music stores but music with no limitations!

Since loadtheshow started early last year, several other websites have popped up offering free and legal music downloads, and some letting users choose how much they want to pay for a track, similar to what Radiohead did with their new album.

There are of course tons of sites that allow you to download music illegally; the end result of course is the death of that artist you love so much, and the record labels, who have distributed music in the traditional ways, fighting to stop you from doing this.

But the culture of downloading music for free exists already, and it’s not going away. So download your music from the legal websites, and watch 2008 as digital music distribution becomes the dominant force in music distribution.

Damn Right single available for download first on loadtheshow

December 3rd, 2007

Damn RightWith little but word of mouth since their first ever live performance in January 2007, rock band Damn Right has taken the underground music scene by storm. With authentic, leather studded rock ‘n roll swagger and unforgettable live stage performances, Damn Right’s explosively unapologetic rock ‘n roll sound compares to none other.

Their EP Son of a Gun, is a 5 track hard hitting rock ‘n roll revival, which has been made available first on loadtheshow. The first track Electric Highway has shot to the top of the loadtheshow charts.

We’re not all sheep…

November 21st, 2007

I know I own a tractor and drive around in it looking after sheep, but I am not a sheep!

At this time of the year you start seeing adverts pushed at you for those Christmas Compilation CD’s, “Buy this great gift for some poor member of your family…”, but in reality, there is no greatness!

Last night I saw an ad on TV for a compilation called “Housework Songs”, who on earth wants that, here is the perfect gift idea… Buy a blank CD, download some tracks off loadtheshow and write to CD, print a picture of yourself and put on the cover, and there you have a great and thoughtful gift, here some suggested artists:

amaAmbush
amaAmbush is a professional marimba band that was formed in 2002 by company founder and director, Ross Johnson. The band’s high energy performances have put them in a class of their own.

jacSharp
What do you get when yo
u mix an electronic drummer, rock/funk guitarist, afro/jazz bassist and a pop/jazz singer…? A completely new, eclectic genre of music.

Pete Dowan
Medically disabled songwriter from St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Check out his popular track “Ladies in White” about nurses!

Pravada23
Who is pravada23, good question, what we can tell you is pravada23 is elec-techtronic ambient, check it out for yourself.

Radio 2000… it was good while it lasted

November 6th, 2007

radio2000_sa.jpgloadtheshow is based in South Africa, on my way to work every morning in the most amazing city in the World…. Cape Town I have listed to Radio 2000. The only radio station that has not stuck to the conventional over played play lists and introduced me to some great SA bands that none of the other stations are playing.

I’m a rocker at heart… which once again, none of the other radio station beleive there are any left in South Africa… I find this incredibly hard to beleive - just look at the music available to download on loadtheshow, a huge selection of SA rock plus some international rock / indie / alternative, what ever you want to call it.

But if you type Radio 2000 into Google at the moment, what are you going to find…. hundreds of people campaigning online because Radio 2000 has scrapped the rock…. and are heading for a more commercial playlist - with none other than more R ‘n B and pop, and to make things worse, not even SA R ‘n B and pop.

So what station are people in SA who are into rock supposed to listen to? Because I can’t think of any?
